Comerica → Fifth Third: what changes for your money
Fifth Third closed its acquisition of Comerica on February 1, 2026 — but Comerica still operates under its own brand, and its published routing numbers are unchanged: comerica.com still prints its state table, and all four numbers are Bank-verified here with a screenshot. Full system and brand conversion is planned for the third quarter of 2026 — that's when to watch for changes.
What to know
- Comerica's routing numbers are still current: comerica.com's own table assigns one number by the state where you opened the account — all four are Bank-verified here with a captured screenshot.
- Fifth Third's own completion statement: customers "will continue to enjoy consistent coverage teams and the products and services they value today" — with conversions expected in the third quarter of 2026.
- One number per state where the account was opened, not where you live now — Arizona and California share 121137522.
- What happens to Comerica routing numbers after the Q3 conversion hasn't been published in any primary source yet. Banks give direct advance notice of number changes — and we'll update this page when the bank publishes specifics.
- News reports circulate specific conversion dates — those aren't confirmed on either bank's own pages. Treat any date more precise than "third quarter" as unverified.
How it happened
- October 6, 2025 — Fifth Third and Comerica announce a definitive merger agreement — an all-stock deal valued at $10.9 billion, creating "the 9th largest U.S. bank." (Joint release (SEC 8-K exhibit))
- January 6, 2026 — Shareholders of both companies approve the merger (99.7% of Fifth Third votes, 97.0% of Comerica votes cast in favor). (Joint release (SEC 8-K exhibit))
- January 13, 2026 — The Federal Reserve approves the combination: "customers at both banks will see little change in their day-to-day business, and Comerica locations will continue to operate under the Comerica brand." (Joint release (SEC 8-K exhibit))
- February 1, 2026 — The merger closes — the FDIC records Comerica Bank's charter (CERT 983) merging into Fifth Third; the combined bank is "the ninth-largest U.S. bank with approximately $294 billion in assets." (Completion release (SEC 8-K exhibit) + FDIC record)
- Q3 2026 (planned) — "Full system and brand conversions are expected in the third quarter. Until then, Comerica locations will continue to operate under the Comerica brand." Watch for direct notice from the bank as this approaches. (Completion release (SEC 8-K exhibit))
Comerica + Fifth Third questions
Is Comerica now part of Fifth Third?
Yes — the merger closed February 1, 2026, per the FDIC's charter record and both companies' announcements. But Comerica keeps operating under the Comerica brand until the full system and brand conversion, which Fifth Third says is expected in the third quarter of 2026.
Did Comerica's routing numbers change?
No. As of July 5, 2026, comerica.com still publishes its own routing-number table — one number per state where the account was opened — and we've Bank-verified all four numbers against that page with a screenshot. Fifth Third's own statements say customers will see little change until the Q3 2026 conversion.
Will my Comerica routing number change after the conversion?
Neither bank has published routing-number specifics for the Q3 2026 conversion yet. When numbers change, banks notify customers directly and in advance. Before setting up new deposits or payments around the conversion window, read your current details from Comerica's (or by then Fifth Third's) digital banking — and treat any 'your numbers changed' message that doesn't come from the bank itself as suspect.
Which Comerica routing number do I use?
The one for the state where you opened your account, per Comerica's own page: Arizona and California use 121137522, Florida 067012099, Michigan 072000096, and Texas 111000753. For accounts opened in other states, Comerica's page says to contact the bank.
What should Comerica customers do right now?
Per both banks: nothing — accounts, branches, and numbers continue as-is until the conversion. The sensible habit is to confirm routing and account details in the app before any new deposit or wire, especially as the third-quarter conversion window approaches.
