Discover → Capital One: what changes for your money

Discover Bank is now a division of Capital One, N.A. Its routing number has not changed: as of July 4, 2026, Discover's own direct-deposit form still shows 031100649.

What to know

  • Direct deposit and ACH keep working with routing number 031100649 — Discover's own post-merger direct-deposit form still prints it.
  • Capital One's official guidance: "continue to manage your accounts as usual" unless they contact you — changes come "by email or letter" in advance.
  • Sending a wire to a Discover account? The number above is confirmed for ACH and direct deposit — get wire instructions from the Discover app, since wire numbers can differ.
  • Credit cards aren't part of this: cards don't use routing numbers — those belong to deposit accounts only.
  • Don't act on "your numbers changed" messages from anyone but the bank — number changes come with direct advance notice.

Discover + Capital One questions

Did Discover's routing number change in the Capital One merger?

No sign of change: as of July 4, 2026, Discover's own direct-deposit form — now branded "Discover, a division of Capital One, N.A." — still prints routing number 031100649. Confirm in your Discover app before setting up a new direct deposit.

Do my Discover account numbers change?

No change has been announced as of July 4, 2026. Capital One's official Discover FAQ says to "continue to manage your accounts as usual" unless they reach out, and that updates come "by email or letter" in advance — and Discover's current forms still ask for your existing Discover account number. Note the bank has not published a guarantee that numbers will never change; watch for direct notices.

Can I use 031100649 for wire transfers to a Discover account?

Discover's own documents confirm 031100649 for ACH and direct deposit. We haven't found a Discover document that prints an incoming-wire routing number, and wire numbers can differ from ACH numbers — get wire instructions from the Discover app or customer service before sending a wire.

Does FDIC insurance change now that Discover is part of Capital One?

Per Capital One's official FAQ, deposits at Capital One and Discover became jointly insured by the FDIC up to the allowable limits starting November 18, 2025. If you hold large balances at both brands, check your combined coverage.

Are Discover credit cards affected the same way?

Credit cards don't have routing numbers — routing numbers belong to deposit accounts like checking, savings, and money market. Whatever changes the merger brings on the card side, it doesn't change how routing numbers work for Discover bank accounts.

What should I check before sending money to a Discover account?

Confirm the routing and account numbers inside the Discover app or on discover.com, match the number to the transfer type, and verify the recipient's details out of band. A routing number identifies the bank, not the person — treat any 'new numbers' notice that doesn't come from the bank itself as suspect.

What we checked, and when

Routing data is sourced from official bank pages, FDIC and NCUA institution data, and public routing directories, current in this build as of July 4, 2026. Confirm routing or SWIFT details with the financial institution before sending money.
